The one where The Secret to Happiness gets a new cover
The Secret to Happiness was the book which secured me my publishing deal with the amazing Boldwood Books and it has just had a cover makeover. This is how it used to look …
It was published on 3rd September 2019 and was the fourth book Boldwood released. Since then, I've had another eighteen books released and another two covers designed for upcoming releases. The Secret to Happiness has always stood out as being very different from my other book covers. It was the only one which had a strapline on the cover and it was the only one using photos rather than illustrations so it never quite fit with the others.
Boldwood have done an amazing job of building a specific look and brand for each author and The Secret to Happiness really didn't fit with mine. For the past year or so, we've been talking about having a new cover for it but we weren't really sure what it would be. I was allocated a new cover designer for The Start of Something Wonderful – the first book in my new 'Escape to the Lakes' series out a week today (Monday 17th July) – and she was tasked with redesigning the cover for The Secret to Happiness in line with the fresh branding on The Start of Something Wonderful.
This is how it looks now …
As you can see from the image below, showing old and new side by side, the concept and colours have remained the same, but I love that this new version of The Secret to Happiness fits in with the rest of my books now.
Please be assured that the content hasn't changed – it is only the cover that has been adjusted. This is something publishers often do to give a fresh and/or consistent look to an author's books. It can also be to celebrate a milestone. In this case, it's lovely to have my very first Boldwood book reissued with 'the million-copy bestseller' at the top, reflecting how far my books have come since I joined Boldwood.
What do you think of the new version? Do you prefer it to the old one?
If you haven't yet read this book, the blurb is below the next image. It works as a standalone story although I would recommend reading All You Need is Love first for maximum spoiler-free enjoyment as the two books are connected. The Secret to Happiness tells the stories of Alison, Danniella and Karen. Karen is the best friend of the main character in All You Need is Love, Jemma, so we first meet her there. Some insights into Jemma's story after All You Need is Love finishes can be found in The Secret to Happiness which is set afterwards.
Big happy hugs
